Muyoka powers Rangers past Amazon

The Kimilili-based side is chasing a maiden Super Cup slot.

Naomy Muyoka scored 11 goals for Rangers Women HC, before being sidelined for three accumulated two-minute suspensions, to power the Kimilili-based side to a 37-28 win over Amazon Ladies.

The Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) women's league match was played on Saturday 18 February at Nyayo Handball Court.

In a closely contested first half, the Gerald Juma-coached Rangers took an early lead and maintained a two-goal advantage to head to the break leading 20-18. 

Both sides returned for the second half charged to fight for a win and Amazon fought to cut the lead to a single goal at 22-21. 

However, Juma'a charges upped the tempo of the game and caught amazon severally on the fast break to stretch the lead to five at 27-22 and the Thika-based Amazon never recovered. 

"We are fighting to qualify for the Super Cup and this win was crucial for us. We have some tough matches coming up so every point that we can pick we will give everything to. 

Right now we ate third on the log and if we can maintain that position, it will be a good place to be in our second season in the top tier league," coach Juma said. 

Martha Lavendah and Peris Murumba added nine and six to the tally for Rangers. Amazon's onslaught was led by Valine AkothElizabeth Wambui and Christine Mkiirigi all scoring seven in the loss. 

Meanwhile, Nairobi City Council (NCC) came from behind to pick a 38-36 win over Rising Stars in an entertaining encounter. 

Stars led 18-12 at half time but Winnie Chebet instigated a comeback, scoring 13 at the end of the match to aid NCC pick the win. 

In another match, Nairobi Water Queens annihilated New Hope 51-07 to maintain their unbeaten run. 

The Jack Ochieng-led Queens were 20-6 up in the first half but ran the scores against the Peter Mwathi-coached deaf side, restricting them to a single goal in the second half for the win.

Cecilia Katheu led the scoring with nine goals while Brenda Ariviza and Gladys Chilo added seven a piece for the win.

Florence Sanyisa and Peris Okumu scored three and two respectively for New Hope.
